Bryn Tyddyn

A 1970s bungalow in North Wales

Though it is a modern house there are some interesting twists in the story.

A conveyance between Midland Bank Limited, Lewis Griffith Lewis and Henry Owen contains exceptions and reservations relevant to the estate.

08 Aug 1950

Ceiri Parry and Jane Hughes Parry sold a plot of land to Lleyn Rural District Council. I believe this was the land for Tre'r Ddol.

[9]

23 Jan 1956

Ceiri Parry and Jane Hughes Parry sold a plot of land to George Deleven Nicholas which contained convenants relevant to Bryn Tyddyn

[9]

25 Jun 1958

Jane Hughes Parry sold a plot of land to Frederick George Stewart and Doris Morgan Stewart which contained convenants relevant to Bryn Tyddyn

[9]

31 Jul 1959

Ceiri Parry and Jane Hughes Parry sold a plot of land to Ellis Owen Jones and Laura Eirlys Jones which contained convenants relevant to Bryn Tyddyn.

[9]

1970s

Local school children played football on the land with coats for goalposts. It was farmland at the time.

10 April 1973

Caernarvonshire County Council, the local planning authority, granted planning permission to George Maxwell Developments. Development must begin within 5 years, and within 2 years of the submission of detailed plans. Access to the estate was prescribed in detail, and there was only to be one entrance.

[11][12]

10 Oct 1973

Jane Hughes Parry sold the plot of land which was to become Bryn Tyddyn to George Maxwell Developments Ltd.

[9]

07 November 1973

George Maxwell Developments submitted detailed plans for a residential development on fields 390, 391 and 353 Pentre'r Felin to Caernarvonshire County Council.

[11][13]

18 Dec 1973

Caernarvonshire County Council, the local planning authority, approved detailed plans for the proposed residential development at Tyddyn Ysguboriau, Pentrefelin.

[11][13]

10 Oct 1974

There was no mention of the Bryn Tyddyn estate on the 1975/76 electoral register.

[1]

11 Aug 1975

Plot No. 3 was sold by George Maxwell Developments Ltd to Edward Pugh Jones and Gwyneth Jones for £11450, they had a mortgage with Barclays Bank. They previously lived in Criccieth.

[8][9][10]

10 Oct 1975

Only two of the bungalows are mentioned on the 1976/1977 electoral register for which the qualifying date was 10th October 1975.

[1]

10 Oct 1976

By this date our house was occupied by Edward P. Jones, Gwyneth Jones and teenager Lynne Jones. I believe Edward and Gwyneth had been married just over 20 years at the time they moved in. Only about 20 of the eventual 57 bungalows on the estate were occupied by people who had registered to vote. The Jones family had neighbours at No. 1 (George and Mabel Moss, a couple in their 60s) and No.2 (William and Meinir Thomas) but No. 4 and No. 5 appear to remain unoccupied.

[1][2][3]

21 May 1977

Lynne Jones turned 18

[1]

10 Oct 1977

Only just over half of the estate appears to have been occupied full time, but it is hard to tell if the remainder did not register to vote, or if they remained empty at this point. The Jones family have a new neighbour at No. 2 Mabel Elwell.

[1]

10 Oct 1978

Lynne Jones does not appear on the 1979/80 electoral register so it seems likely that she left home around this time.

[1]

25 Sep 1979

Edward and Gwyneth Jones are released from their mortgage on 3 Bryn Tyddyn.

[10]

10 Oct 1979

The Jones family have left and Lena P Gore has moved into our house.

[1]

12 Nov 1979

Mabel Moss from No.1 died.

[1][3][4]

10 Oct 1980

George Moss at No.1 is now a widower on his own. The Mrs Gore now definitely has neighbours on the other side too, as Joyce Maskell and Margaret Riches occupy No. 4/5. I remember a previous occupant of No. 5 telling us that there was an internal door between the two semi-detatched bungalows.

[1]

10 Oct 1985

During the preceeding twelve months Mabel Elwell has left No. 2 and Mrs Gore has new neighbours, Norman and Millicent Scott.

[1]

16 Jan 1988

Mr George Moss from No. 1 died.

[5]

10 Oct 1989

No. 1 next door still appears to be empty.

[1]

Last Quarter 1989

Mr Norman Scott from No. 2 died.

[6]

10 Oct 1990

There are new neighbours at No. 1 which has been renamed from Maes Moss to Eithinog. Millicent Scott is also now on her own at No. 2.

[1]

First Quarter 1995

Mrs Millicent Scott from No. 2 died.

[7]

10 Oct 1995

No. 2 is not mentioned on the electoral register for 1996/97, so was probably still empty.

[1]

10 Oct 1998

Mrs Gore finally had a new neighbour at No. 2. Georgina Williams moved in during the preceeding twelve months and named the house Whiteway.

[1]

26 Feb 2000

Margaret Riches from No. 5 died, unusually this is noted on the electoral register. Joyce Maskell remained at No. 4.

[1]

15 Oct 2001

George and Beryl Powell moved into No. 5 in the preceeding period.

[1]

18 December 2002

Kathleen McGee, David Gore and Nicholas John Gore sell the house to Tony.

[8]

01 Dec 2003

Tony appears on the electoral register for the first time.
