The Rhos Helyg Locomotive Works specialises in painting and repainting of Garden Railway locomotives and rolling stock. Everything is possible, and nothing is impossible!

If you consider one of your locomotives to have too glossy a finish this can be rectified by spraying the loco with a thin coat of satin or matt varnish.

Perhaps your loco is just looking a little battered and worn, in which case we can offer you a full repaint, including a strip down to bare metal, bodywork repairs as required, followed by a re-spray in etch primer followed by the exact colour of your choice with a finish (gloss, satin or matt) of your choice. Lining, transfers and nameplates can also be applied as part of this service.

We are agents for the fine range of etched-brass MDC name plates, number plates and works plates. Please see here for more information and ordering details.

Locomotive repaints normally use 2-pack (2K) primer and acrylic paint as it is extremely hard-wearing. Wooden rolling stock is normally painted with oil-based enamel primer and paints.

This is a model of the Talyllyn Railway's Edward Thomas that was recently repainted, seen in the condition in which it was received:

And here is the same loco after its repaint was completed:
